The Johnny Appleseed Trail of North Central Massachusetts spans along Rt 2 between the historic "Freedom" Trail and the very popular "Mohawk" Trail. The historic and quaint traditional New England cities and towns within this thriving and scenic region include Ashburnham, Ashby, Athol, Ayer, Barre, Bolton, Clinton, Fitchburg, Gardner, Groton, Harvard, Hubbardston, Lancaster, Leominster, Lunenburg, Pepperell, Petersham, Phillipston, Princeton, Royalston, Shirley, Sterling, Templeton, Townsend, Westminster, and Winchendon.
Where is the Johnny Appleseed Trail Visitor Center and what can I find there?
The Johnny Appleseed Visitor Center is the gateway to the trail and is located on the westbound side of Route 2 in Lancaster, MA approximately 45 minutes west of Boston. The 2,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility provides rest stop amenities such as rest rooms, vending machines, an ATM machine and a touchscreen information kiosk. Please visit our gift shop where you can purchase locally made products as well as homemade baked goods and coffee to go! Information guides and brochures on regional attractions, businesses and services are also available. Our professionally trained staff and volunteers are on hand to welcome the traveling public to the center year-round, seven days-a-week, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Hours may vary depending on the season.
