Learn to design characters using geometric shapes as a foundation, and how to make them come alive with expressive facial expressions and exciting action poses. Draw and paint in color: colored pencils, oil pastels, watercolor, tempera paints, collage, and combinations of these. We’ll explore color schemes, shading, proportion, and composition, but you choose the subject matter (cartoons, animals, portraits, etc.). $82M, $102NM. August 5-10 9am-4pm. Museum of Russian Icons Prosopon School of Iconology. The Museum of Russian Icons has the honor of hosting the renowned Prosopon School of Iconology for an intensive six-day course on icon writing. Under the guidance of Vladislav Andrejev, students will study the techniques of painting icons, including transferring the image, applying gold leaf, mixing pigments, using the “floating” egg tempera technique, and lettering in the traditional style. Students will use natural materials and the traditional multi-step process to paint their own icons of Archangel Michael. Previous students can make special arrangements with the instructor to paint another subject for their icon workshop. Throughout the course, students will be introduced to iconology, iconic symbolism, and the theological and philosophical basis of each step. No previous artistic experience is required.
