Winchendon Historical Society, Inc., was founded in 1930. The large collection of the society is exhibited at the Murdock-Whitney House Museum at 151 Front Street, Winchendon. The mansion was bequeathed to the society by Adelaide Whitney in December 2000. At the turn of the century, the old house was moved away from Front Street, and architect H.M. Francis constructed the 22 room mansion that graces the Historical District of Winchendon.
