Below is a list of what is going on in Johnny Appleseed Country during the month of January. If you are aware of an event that is going on in our region that is not listed here, email it to us, we will be glad to put it on for all our visitors to see! 

26 Thursday-29 Sunday. 10th ANNUAL FLORA IN WINTER, A FLORAL EXTRAVAGANZA 4 Days ONLY! Tower Hill Botanic Garden AND The Worcester Art Museum. Flora in Winter features fresh floral arrangements interpreting works of art at the Worcester Art Museum (55 Salisbury St, Worcester) and "A Floral Feast" at Tower Hill Botanic Garden.  Tower Hill admission is $12 adults, $9 seniors ages 65 and older, $7 for youth ages 6-18. Admission is free for Tower Hill Members, and children under 6. Public WOO Card holders save $2 on admission.

26 Thursday.  Wachusett Mountain. Grand National Championships.  8-10pm.  Grand National Championships has been playing live in original bands for the past ten years all over the East Coast. They are very attractive young men. Will be bringing a unique set of covers to the Coppertop for your enjoyment.

27 Friday 11am.  Tower Hill Botanic Garden.  A Feast for the Senses: Sight, Smell Taste and Touch - Demonstration

27 Friday 1pm-3pm.  Tower Hill Botanic Garden.  Guided Tour of Flora in Winter arrangements

27 Friday 1:30pm.   Tower Hill Botanic Garden.  A Feast for the Senses: Sight, Smell Taste and Touch - Workshop

27 Friday 7:30 pm.  Tower Hill Botanic Garden enhances the mood and atmosphere of Flora in Winter with a Candlelight Concert presented by renowned jazz pianist Dr. Elliot Steger and friends. Tickets are $30 nonmembers and $25 for members of either Tower Hill or the Worcester Art Museum. Twigs Café will provide complimentary hors d'oeuvre. Call Tower Hill at 508.869.6111 ext. 135 for reservations.

27 Friday. Wachusett Mountain. Second Base.  8-10pm.  We Play classic rock songs from the sixties and seventies along with blues, top-40, and some songs you never expect to hear acoustically.  We present the songs in a way that entertains and encourages the audience to join in the fun.

27 Friday 8pm. Johnny Winter Bull Run Restaurant Shirley, MA

27 Friday 9:30 pm.  Gardner Ale House 74 Parker St Gardner. Beach Party.  Live music with the Duppy Conquerors (Reggae, Bob Marley tribute band).  $300 in cash prizes for best beach gear appearances, XBox surf competition on the big screen and the Limbo.  Plus, squirt game, beach chairs, Twister station, Bubbles, hula hoops, Tiki bar, Boogie boards, Beach towels, etc.

28 Saturday 9am.   Tower Hill Botanic Garden.  Flora in Winter: A Floral Feast

28 Saturday 9am. Hike Elm Street to Granite Street.Start the New Year off right by getting out for fresh air and exercise as we hike or snowshoe up to the South Monoosnoc Overlook then over to Granite Street then back. COST: Free (unless noted) - Hikers gather informally and hike at your own risk. Please let us know if you are planning on joining us on each hike so we can notify you of any changes in the schedule or cancelations by calling Judith Sumner at the Recreation Department, 978-534-7529 weekdays. Hikes are canceled if it rains. We recommend that hikers wear proper hiking gear, bring water, take a snack, and wear sunscreen and insect repellant.

28 Saturday 1 pm - 5 pm. Fruitland's Museum Winterfest Weekends every weekend in January and February.  Grounds for sledding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.  Check out www.fruitlands.org for more information.

28 Saturday 1-5PM. Eastern Mountain Sports Demos at the Fruitlands Museum.  Eastern Mountain Sports will be on site with equipment trials and guided hikes. No Snow? No worries! They'll be offering tips for hiking and how to dress for winter activities. Free with WinterFest admission or just plain free if WinterFest is cancelled.

28 Saturday 10:30-11:30am. Fitchburg Public Library Garden Room. Diabetes Education class with Nicole Parent R.N. Does your child have Type 1 or type 2 diabetes? If so please join us for an hour of discussion on and caring for a child with diabetes. Sponsored by Children’s Aid & Family Services with a grant from the United Way. 28 Saturday 12pm.   Tower Hill Botanic Garden.  A Progressive Floral Feast: for the eyes, the nose, and the soul

28 Saturday 2pm.  Gardening Mixed Media -  Tower Hill Botanic Garden.  Growing Vegetables and Fruit in the Ornamental Landscape

28 Saturday 8pm. Vance Gilbert Bull Run Restaurant Shirley, MA

28 Saturday 8-10pm.  Wachusett Mountain. Hoodoo Revelator.  Hoodoo Revelator is a rocking band featuring the music of the Rolling Stones, the J.Giles Band, and R&B classics. Hoodoo Revelator has released 3 CDs and has been featured in radio play on WZLX and WAAF.

28 Saturday 8 pm. Beach Party at the American Legion Hall, 3 Central St., Baldwinville. Let the good times roll as Templeton begins a year-long celebration of its 250th anniversary. Dress for summer fun, dance on the “beach”  and shake off those winter blues! For details, visit www.templeton250.com.

29 Sunday 4-6pm. Wachusett Mountain. Five on Friday.  “Five on Friday” has been described as a new “organic” band that is growing out of a desire to take popular songs and perform them live with a raw, amplified acoustic twist, strong vocals, and they never take themselves too seriously. It’s all about playing music and having fun with the crowd.
