 Hiking
There is SO much hiking that it would be difficult to write it all here. Below are the top 10 hikes in our area as well as some other resources for finding hikes in our area.
1. Doane's Falls and Tully Lake in Royalston. 22 miles. Descend a short streamside trail and get an up-close experience with a raucous series of plunging falls. MAP
2. Leominster State Forest Hiking Trail in Westminster. 10 miles. Wooded with lake. Crow Hill has a great panormic view of the area. MAP
3. Mount Wachusett Jack Frost Trail in Princeton. Old pine woods. Park near Echo Lake Rd. MAP
5. Royalston Falls in Royalston. Follow a descending trail that leads to a deep, ancient gorge carved by prehistoric glacial meltwater to falls that plunge 45 feet into a basin.
6. Brooks Woodland Preserve in Petersham. Follow miles of footpaths and old farm roads through a massive expanse of diverse forest, pristine streams, and wetlands.
7. Swift River Reservation. A landscape that supported Colonial-era farming has returned to a natural environment of forest and swamp, fields and uplands, laced by seven miles of trails and old roads.
8. Redemption Rock. A modest-sized reservation with a momentous history, it was here in April of 1676 that King Philip’s War hostage Mary White Rowlandson was released from Indian captivity. Short 1/4 mile hike.
9. Jacob's Hill. Climb through a forest of beech, hemlock, and birch to reach an unparalleled 
wilderness vista, then explore Spirit Falls as it rolls down the mountainside.
10. Midstate Trail Muddy Pond Westminster. Easy hike with dirt paths.
