Below is a list of what is going on in Johnny Appleseed Country during the month of March. If you are aware of an event that is going on in our region that is not listed here, email it to us, we will be glad to put it on for all our visitors to see!

1 Saturday, 8 am – 1 pm. Indoor Flea Market at Ashburnham Community Church, Main Street, Ashburnham. Attic treasures, books, CDs, DVDs, jewelry, crafts, small furniture, toys and more. Breakfast served 8 – 10 am, lunch sandwiches from 10:30 am – 1 pm.

2 Sunday, 8 pm. Dave Mason in concert at the Bull Run Restaurant, Route 2A, Shirley. The career of this Rock n Roll Hall of Fame icon spans 37 years. Tickets $38 in advance, $42 day of show. Call 978-425-4311.

4 Tuesday, 7 pm. Opening reception for Paintings by Yu-Wen Wu at the Campus Center, Fitchburg State College, Pearl Street, Fitchburg. Artist talk at 6:30 pm. Free admission. Call 978-665-3177 for more information.

6 Thursday. Mountainside Women’s Fest at Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, 499 Mountain Road, Princeton. Clinics, Demos, lessons and activities all geared towards female skiers/riders. Visit www.wachusett.com or call 978-464-2300.

6 Thursday, 4 – 8 pm. First Thursday Block Party on Main Street, Fitchburg. With a theme of “Celebrate the Arts,” the block party welcomes visitors to downtown. One in a monthly series sponsored by the mayor’s office. Call Ellen DiGeronimo at 978-345-9602 for details.

7 Friday, 4:30 pm. The Fish Fry at Madonna of the Holy Rosary Church, 118 Theresa St., Fitchburg. This weekly Lenten fish fry offers $6 meals featuring fried or baked haddock. Fish or corn chowder and desserts are also available. Call the rectory at 978-342-1290.

7 Friday, 8 pm. Andrea Beaton in concert at Bull Run Restaurant, Route 2A, Shirley. One of Cape Breton’s most promising young fiddlers. Listen to the power of her bow, the drive and swing of her timing, the crispness of her attack. $12 in advance, $16 day of show. Call 978-425-4311.

8 Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm. Art Smart at Ayer Town Hall. The Ayer Cultural Council presents a day-long event celebrating the arts. Featured will be Town Hall Music Project’s production of “Aesop’s Fables”. Local artisans’ work will be displayed throughout the day, and there will be activities for all ages. 8 Saturday. The Great Race at Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, 499 Mountain Rd, Princeton. The culmination of the Night Race League series in this race on Smith Walton Trail. Visit www.wachusett.com or call 978-464-2300.

8 Saturday, 4:30 – 6 pm. Pot Roast Supper at First Church of Templeton, on the common, Route 2A, Templeton. The family-style supper includes freshly prepared pot roast, vegetable, beverage, and a piece of homemade pie for dessert. Tickets $8 per adult, $4 per child, children under 5 free. 8 Saturday, 8 pm. James Cotton performs at the Bull Run Restaurant, Route 2A, Shirley. Hear this Grammy Award winner and Blues Hall of Famer. $30 in advance, $35 day of show. Call 978-425-4311.

9 Sunday, noon – 2 pm. International Women’s Day Celebration at the Clark Memorial YMCA, Central Street, Winchendon. A day for honoring women through a variety of activities including massages, acupuncture, hair tips, arts and crafts, a chocolate fountain, information for women’s education, breast exams and more. 9 Sunday, 3–4:30 pm. The Civil War 1861-1864: Its Impact on Lancaster at the Thayer Memorial Library, Lancaster. View pictures and hear about sacrifices made. Local re-enactors in uniform welcome. Call Michael Sczerzen 978-365-5833.

11 Tuesday, at 7:00 pm. East Gardner State Hospital at the Westminster Historical Society 110 Main Street, Westminster. Several Westminster families gave up their homesteads when the state purchased them to create the State Hospital. We’ll display a map of the area and photos of the hospital and share the history we have researched. Refreshments will be served and the public is always invited. Call 978-874-5569.

15 Saturday, 9 am – 2 pm. Craft Fair at Narragansett Middle School, Baldwinville Road (exit 20 off Rt.2), Templeton. Crafters and artisans fill the gymnasium and cafeteria with booths displaying a variety of hand-crafted items. Event also features a Chinese auction, food. Proceeds benefit Class of 2010. 16 Sunday, noon – 4 pm. Third Annual Egg Hunt & pictures with Easter Bunny at The Cider Mill, 15 Waushacum Ave., Sterling. Free admission. Hunt for the golden egg! Sponsored by The Cider Mill and Oh My Gosh Antiques. Refreshments. Call 978-422-8675 Tues. – Thurs. and weekends.

16 Sunday, 2 pm. “Amelia Earhart’s Last Flight.” At Top Fun Aviation Toy Museum, 21 Prichard Street, Fitchburg. Regular admission ($5 adult, which includes one child free) covers this special event. What really happened to Amelia Earhart? There are lots of opinions about what happened on her last flight. Are you curious? Do you have some new ideas of your own? 17 Monday. Green Day/St. Patrick’s Day at Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, 499 Mountain Road, Princeton. Wachusett has been making headlines as they have been going green for a while now. 18 Tuesday. Skier/Rider Makeover Finals Party at Wachusett Mountain, 499 Mountain Rd, Princeton. All season long we have been having skier makeover parties. This is the finals to see who really has become the best skier/rider. Call 978-464-2300.

21&22 Friday & Saturday, 8 p.m. My Friend Miss Flint at the Stratton Playhouse, 60 Wallace Avenue, Fitchburg. When a TV gardening personality receives a call from Inland Revenue auditors regarding his public relations consultant Joanna Flint, he can honestly say he doesn’t know her. 22 Saturday, 7:30 pm. Girl Howdy at the Wendell Full Moon Coffeehouse, in the historic Wendell Town Hall. Come and dance the night away with this local all-girl vintage honky-tonk & country-swing band. Event benefits the 1794 Meetinghouse. Whoops, yells and whistles are not uncommon amongst Girl Howdy concert goers — a fact that can’t seem to be helped, as it’s quite evident the gals themselves are hogwild for the music they play. 22 Saturday, 8 pm. Golf, the Musical performed by the Central Mass Repertory Theatre at the Leominster Synagogue, 268 Washington St., Leominster. 28 Friday, 8 pm. Hip-hop To Da Head at Weston Auditorium, Fitchburg State College. Gabriel “Kwikstep” Dionisio and Ana “Rokafella” Garcia, from the Bronx, created Full Circle Productions a decade ago, solidifying hip hop as a cultural art form of high regard. Dionsio and Garcia have worked with Mariah Carey, Fabulos and Will Smith. The directors are committed to the classical technique of hip-hop, maintaining the integrity of its elements— deejaying, rapping, B-boy and B-girl dancers and graffiti art. Hip-hop to da Head has been called a montage of dance, song, rhyme and monologues by an urban folkloric storytelling group whose unique style comes from those who “live hip-hop every day.” Tickets $22, $20 seniors, $7 students.
