Ongoing Events in 2010

Sundays, 2 pm. Concerts at Coggshall Park, Electric Avenue, Fitchburg. Scheduled concerts: Help on June 27, Angela West Showband (Country) on July 18, Erin’s Melody on August 15, and Amoskeag Strummers Band on Sept. 12. Rain Dates July 25, August 22. 

Sundays, 3 pm. Concerts on the Templeton Common, Route 2A. The Narragansett Community Band performs on July 11 and 25 and August 8 (includes pooch promenade) and 22. 

Sundays, June through October, 1 and 2:30 pm. Guided Tours of the Murdock-Whitney House Museum, a magnificent 22-room home at 151 Front Street, Winchendon. House includes the Converse Toy Collection. Tours also available on Wednesdays, 1 and 2:30 pm, or by appointment for groups of five or more. Call 978-297-2142. 

Sundays, June 20 through August 22, 7 pm. Quabbin Community Band Concerts at the bandstand on the town common, Barre. In case of rain, concerts are held in the Town Hall.
Third Tuesday of the month through June, 7:30 pm. Leominster Art Association regular monthly meeting. A different artist every month demonstrates in a different medium. Congregational Church of Christ, 583 Main Street (Rt. 13), N. Leominster. $5 guest fee for non-members. Call Eleanor 978-537-3898. 

Tuesdays, 10–11 am. Story Hour for young Children at the Fitchburg Public Library, Main Street, Fitchburg. Free admission. Call 978-345-9635. 

Tuesdays, July 13 through August 10, 7:30 pm. Concerts in the Park at Carter Park on Route 12, Leominster. The Centennial season of Leominster Colonial Band concerts will feature musical programs to please all ages. All concerts are free and in case of inclement weather will be held in Leominster City Hall, 25 West Street. 

Wednesdays in July, 6:30 pm. Concerts on the Upper Common, Main Street, Fitchburg. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, or settle into a bench around the bandstand for a free concert by a variety of performers. Series begins July 7. Free admission. 

Wednesdays in August, 6 pm. Concerts on the Upper Common, Main Street, Fitchburg. The concert season continues through August 18 with various performers. Free admission. 

Third Wednesday of the month, April through September, 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Classic Car Cruise Night in Depot Square, downtown Ayer. Classic and antique cars on display. Free admission. Call Chuck King, 617-592-2525. 

Thursdays, 10:30 am. Story Hour at Thayer Memorial Library, 717 Main St. Lancaster. Each week has a special theme and offers reading, a craft and live music. Recommended for children ages 3 to 5, but all children welcome. No advance registration necessary. Call 978-368-8928. 

Thursdays, June 3 through August 5, 7:30 pm. The Townsend Military Band, Directed by Dr. Jon Nicholson, performs at the Townsend Lawn Party on the Townsend Common, Rte. 119. Concerts include classic band repertory (lots of big overtures and concert band works, plus marches and popular music arrangements). Rain dates Aug. 12 and 26. 

Thursdays, 1-5:30 pm. Children’s programs at the Fitchburg Youth Library, Main Street, Fitchburg. Knit and Crochet (ages 10 and up) from 1 – 3 pm; Lego Club from 4 – 5:30 pm. Call 978-345-9635. 

First Thursday of the Month, 4 pm. “First Thursday” program in downtown Fitchburg. A variety of venues — from the Fitchburg Art Museum to local galleries — offer free admission and special programming for this monthly series. 

Fridays, June 25 through July 30, 7:30 pm. Orange Community Band concerts on the Bandstand in Butterfield Park, Orange. 

Fridays, July 9 through July 30, noon. Brown Bag Concerts at Butterfield Park, 83 East River Street, Orange. 

Saturdays and Sundays through March 28, 11:30 am and 2 pm. Guided sugaring tours at the Warren Farm, 31 Warren Street, N. Brookfield. Reservations required. Learn about the history of maple sugaring, tour the sugarhouse, taste sap and syrup, receive maple recipes. Call 508-867- 0174. Cost, $5. 

Saturdays, June through August, 2:30 – 4:30 pm. Tea in the Garden at the Narragansett Historical Society building, on the Common, Route 2A, Templeton. 

Saturdays, mid-July through late October, 9 am–1 pm. Ayer Farmers’ Market in Depot Square, downtown Ayer. Locally-grown vegetables, fruits, herbs and plants. Adjacent to head of the Nashua River Rail Trail and the MBTA commuter rail station. Contact Ruth Rhonemus, 978-772-5890 days. 

Saturdays, July 20 through October 2, 9 am–1 pm. Farmers markets at the town field at rotary in center of Pepperell. 

Saturdays through April 10, 10 am–1 pm. Apple Tree Pruning & Grafting Exercises at Sholan Farms, 1125 Pleasant St., Leominster. (Weather permitting.) Come learn the art of pruning and grafting while enjoying the fresh air. For details, call 978-840-FARM or email info@sholanfarms.net. 

Saturdays, July and August, 6:30 pm. Summer Concert Series at Monument Park, Central Street, Gardner.
